This highly interactive program focuses on the real challenges managers face, with significant discussion centered on participant experiences and organizational issues. Participants leave with a practical workplace application plan to support the effective integration of newly acquired skills and techniques.

The following topics are covered through practical, hands-on exercises specific to the energy sector and participant needs:

1. Introduction to Managing in the 21st Century

  • Key issues and challenges within the Ontario energy sector
  • Understanding the evolution of management
  • Using the systems model of organizational planning to diagnose and manage problems

2. Self-Management: The First Principle of Effectiveness

  • Personality awareness and self-knowledge
  • The science of managing stress, emotions, and influencing others

3. Leadership: The Second Principle of Effectiveness

  • Managing tasks versus leading people
  • Business planning and performance management processes
  • Dialogue techniques for engaging employees
  • Using the One Minute Manager approach to focus performance
  • Techniques for handling difficult people (optional role play)

4. Change and Transformation

  • Using the S.P.I.N. technique to connect action priorities to key issues
  • Overcoming resistance and reinforcing new habits
  • Process mapping

5. Workplace Action Plan

  • Final S.P.I.N. discussion and documentation

Who should attend?

This program is designed for new managers and those currently in management roles who have not received formal leadership training.

It is also appropriate for employees identified as high-potential management candidates.

Daily Schedule: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Breakfast: Complimentary breakfast available starting at 7:30 AM (voucher provided upon arrival)

Lunch and refreshment breaks are provided throughout the session.

Cancellations received in writing ten (10) working days prior to the course date will receive a full refund, less a 20% service fee (plus 13% HST). No refunds will be issued after this period.

Substitution of registrants from the same company may be made up to the course date.

The MEARIE Group reserves the right to postpone or cancel any course due to low enrollment. In such cases, participants will receive a full refund or may transfer their registration to a future session.

How do I register?

To register yourself or a member of your team, click on the desired course above. You will be redirected to the course page. How do I see training I have registered for?

Training Courses you have registered for are available on The MEARIE Portal. If you do not have an account, visit: Register on MEARIE Portal to create an account. Once logged in, click "My Courses" in the navigation bar on the right to display courses you have registered for.

I haven't received my certificate, what do I do?

Who provides the courses?

MEARIE is the provider of these courses in partnership with various subject matter experts. All of these experts have extensive experience within their respective fields, as practitioners and/or industry consultants.

Will I receive confirmation of my enrolment?

Yes. When you register for the course, a confirmation email will automatically be sent to you.

Are courses available online or in-person?

Courses may be offered online or in-person. Please consult the course's page and date to verify in which format it is being offered. Several of our more popular courses are offered in both formats throughout the year. Be sure to check out course options at www.MEARIE.ca/Training.

What technology do I require to take an online course?

Yes. We recommend using technology with both audio and video capability. We use ZOOM, so be sure it is installed on your computer. It is helpful if you use headphones to help hear one another clearly. As some sessions are interactive, we request the video function be turned on. While the session will work on a tablet, we recommend a desktop or laptop computer as the experience is more engaging and rewarding. A link to the session will be sent via email to you prior to the session. We encourage you to login a minimum of 5-minutes prior to the session start to ensure you successfully connect to the session. 

For online courses, can I use a tablet or phone?

We recommend using a computer for both audio and video capability. While the session will work on a tablet, using a computer provides a more interactive experience. We do not recommend using a phone.
