This one-day course provides essential cybersecurity fundamentals for operational technology (OT) and industrial control systems (ICS) professionals working in Canadian electric distribution utilities. The curriculum focuses on core security concepts applicable to SCADA systems, distribution automation, substations, and distributed energy resources (DERs), emphasizing practical knowledge that can be immediately applied in daily operations.


Course Outline

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand why OT security differs from IT security
  • Identify common cybersecurity threats to electric distribution systems
  • Recognize critical security risks in SCADA, substation, and DER systems
  • Apply basic security practices in daily operational activities
  • Understand the importance of secure remote access and network segmentation
  • Know when and how to report security concerns
